Gaijin Gunpla

Last time I worked on the Extreme Gundam I finished the top half so now, of course, it’s time to do the bottom half and like almost all HGs we start from the ground up.

Standard HG feet, and the legs are pretty standard fare too but there is something that is notable.

Manual says to do it like so:

So I do.

The next part is also notable because if you don’t pay attention you’ll mess up, which is exactly what I did.

This is the top of the leg which houses a polycap and will connect to the skirt. You can see the small piece on the left which slides into the groove. For the opposite leg you will be sliding it into the groove on the right. Makes sense, right? Well, I wasn’t thinking too much about that kind of thing when I assembled it and actually ended up with two completed right legs. Oops!

The armor for the ankle is something I haven’t seen before. It’s molded as one piece instead of two that connect together, and it is assymetrical. The joint for the ankle attaches to the ball sticking out into the center and the matching piece on the other leg is the opposite.

This then plugs into the poly-cap that was in the foot. It took a bit of effort to get it in actually.

The upper leg looks much like those of other HGs however articulation is really limited for some reason.

When combined with the lower leg the range of motion is a little larger but not as much as other HGs.

Here’s the leg parts:

And here’s a leg:

The skirt has some design ideas that raise some questions.

This small piece, similar the front skirt armor on other HGs, slides into the groove on the center block, yet…

Once it is there it doesn’t seem to go anywhere. Other HG’s have the hinge at the top so when the legs move the skirt moves as well. This one won’t do that because the legs don’t actually affect that piece. So why design it this way? Hmm.

Other half of the skirt:

Along with the side armor. Simple but effective!

A completed skirt.

Again the cool blue clear parts do nicely.

So the bottom half is finished!

So it goes without saying that the mecha is finished as well.

Liking the cool blue! But not with the yellow so much.

And the coolest thing about this kit is, as you all know, the guitar. I mean the rifle. I mean the rifle which resembles a guitar.

And the shield is a guitar case!

I mean, it resembles a guitar case. Because it has to house the rifle which resembles a guitar.

One major (major) disappointment with this kit is the beam saber.

Seriously? You’re going to design this kit and use clear blue effect parts, but you’re going to make the beam saber a solid blue? And the beam saber is part of the runner where the effect parts come from. That’s weak, Bandai.

Test build complete and the Extreme Gundam makes his debut.

The shield looks cool, but the rifle is a little weird to look at.

Let’s try something…

Awwww, yeah! That’s much better!

Play me out, Extreme G.

Don’t worry…I’ve ended up with two of the same leg plenty of times

You ended up with two of the same leg? I made that in my second gunpla ever, HG Reborns Gundam, the tighs had holes on both side, and till the ties, all leg parts had that 2x, and when I reached the ties, I didn’t noticed that the 2x was gone, and made two left ( or right ) legs, but I managed to fix it. Since then I am very careful with the 2x times thingy =3

    Rock on syd!
You got any plans for this?

LOL Bearguy and Gundams with Guitars! What will they think of next?!

  5. Joe says:

I think this kit needs some heavy metal hair! Noble Gundam, you’re getting a trim and donating to Locks of EXTREME GUNDAM!

  6. Dennis says:

Hmmm…. How about doing the guitar; sorry rifle to look like one of the customs that you’d see on stage. I think it would look great done like say Eddie Van Halen’s Red and white striped guitar or one of George Lynch from Dokken/Lynch Mob.

guitar rifle!!! *pew pew* Victory solo!! 😀

  8. Gundam Gunso says:

I like the colour variation in terms of the blue. Very interesting to shape the rifle like a guitar XD

  9. JohnLogan says:

    Cool, a gundum with a strad-o-caster!!

Syd, I had a crazy idea for the site. Why not have people submit their Extreme Gundams to you for publication and see how insanely rock star-like they can get. You know the works, painted guitar, etc. I think it work be really cool to see what some people’s imaginations could come up with. Mine’s on order and I already have what I’m doing to the gun planned along with one or two other things. See my comment above…..
