Gaijin Gunpla

Spring is a time of change in Japan. You’ll see it not only in the weather but also in the television schedule and even in turnover of television show hosts. As such, it seemed natural for me to give a bit of a fresh look. (Actually, my webmaster, Dr. T, brought up the possibility of a redo of the site and even went ahead and showed me some preliminary work and it looked good so I got on board). I was reluctant in the beginning to change the site as I thought the original did a great job of providing a bunch of different Gunpla to the community and easy menus in which to navigate through them all. Well, now it’s just got even easier.

For instance, the slider at the top of the home page shows the latest posts while the left side has the most current three kits I am working on. The right side shows the latest Gallery, Kit Reviews, and Life in Japan posts and underneath those I have some gentei and some Great Gunpla. The latest Reader Submission now has a prominent place at the bottom of the site along with the most current entry in the Work Table.

Oh, but that’s not all. Head over to Kit Reviews page and view not only the latest reviews of 1/100 and 1/144 scale kits but also see the other kits I’ve reviewed listed according to rank. Sweet!

I’m sure I’ve missed something and I’ve got some more cleaning up to do around here, but I want to extend a warm welcome to everyone viewing the newest version of!

Yes, we hope you like the refresh. We hadn’t expected to pull the trigger so soon but the gun went off in my hand (so to speak) and we just went with it. Syd and myself both thought there was a better way to organize all the categories and the new front page (once you get used to it) does that well (we hope).

If anything is harder to find let us know and we’ll more than happy to take a look at it.

Of course, any feedback is welcome!

    MUCH better now!
What I’d like to se the most is each post about a kit be shown categorized, so you don’t have to go picking through other posts to see a whole build. You can do that by clicking on the category on a post, but wouldn’t it be nicer to show categories (kits) alphabetically on the Builds pages instead of posts?

If i’m reading correctly what you wrote we addressed that very issue. The left column on the front page is Syd’s three latest builds and the posts to go with them.

Your idea about the builds page showing kits alphabetically is a good one and Syd and I will talk about it.

      Thanks for the comment.

This a good point and an idea we can work on. To be honest I liked my drop down menus from the Builds tab, but the categories were getting quite full. The MG category I felt was too long. Now that current builds are on the front page it might be a good idea to have a separate, organized page indexing all builds.

hi guys, i like the new version but there is just a little something :

on the right where you can chose the re3cent entries, comments and archives, you should put the recent entries before the comments.

otherwise people may come, see no change and think there’s nothing new (i had trouble finding this post as the slider doesn’t work at my job)

Very nice, I agree with the organizing the completed kits. Also is there any chance Syd could build some HCM pros, I’m curious about them.

Hi, great update but would it be possible to include the images and article in your RSS feed instead of just the headline?

Nice change on the site, it looks more polished and eye catching.

I would enjoy it if you made it possible to select individual gundam posts like the old site instead of having to either search for the posts or scroll through multiple posts

    • Hunter says:

Sorry, I forgot the exact name which is drop down menus. If those get added again it would be muxh easier to navigate the site
