Gaijin Gunpla

It has been 7 months since my last ‘Work Table’ entry. This is quite a long gap but it also coincides with the period of time between galleries. I realized when I was putting up the Heavy Arms gallery, that I haven’t completed something worthy of mention since I finished Courage. I mentioned back then how that project took a lot out of my both physically and mentally and that certainly was the case for quite a period of time. There were some high hopes and some false starts but I couldn’t find it in myself to focus on something specific despite having plenty of creative ideas in my head. Well, just recently it seems I found that fire again. Without thinking about it I found myself working on several kits at a time and even doing some rather in-depth work on some of them. So I feel it’s time to resurrect this series of posts though I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t let these entries make me feel the same pressure to complete something as they did before.

For those new to this series, this is where I write about projects I’ve recently completed which are categorized as ‘No longer on the work table‘, projects I’m working on currently (On the work table) and what I’ve got in my possession and will be getting to soon (Currently under the work table). As well I look forward to what I am eagerly awaiting concerning future releases (Coming to the work table). So, without further ado, let’s get to it.

No Longer on the Work Table

1/100 MG Heavy Arms

Dubbed the Heavy Arms S2 this is the first kit I’ve completely taken paint to in months. I also did some rather large modifications when it came to the weapons and I am glad to be able to say it’s done and to show it off. I even went so far as to paint the frame, something I haven’t done in some time. You can see the gallery here and also check out the WIP.

As I have been somewhat inactive when it comes to working with kits (I don’t count straight builds as finished projects) this is the only kit I have to show in this section, though I may make an exception for the HGUC Delta Gundam which you can see in all its gold glory here.

Now that I am back at it I expect this segment of the series to have more content in the coming months.

What am I working on currently?

On the Work Table

1/100 MG Gundam AGE-1 Normal

I loved this kit and knew that I couldn’t just leave it after straight building so I painted, panel lined, and added markings and am just waiting for a dry, sunny day to do the final top-coat. Once it’s ready, I’ll have another gallery to put up. I do still have to clean up the rifle, but that portion of this kit isn’t too important for me.

1/100 MG Duel Gundam Assault Shroud

Yes, I still need to put up a review of this kit (sorry, Jeff). I have some ideas in mind for what I want to do though most of it involves the Duel Gundam itself and not the Shroud. Because I have nothing finalized this may get pushed back while I work on…

1/100 MG Full Armor Unicorn Gundam Ver.Ka

I started fooling around with this guy before I got the Heavy Arms and then it got put back in the box when I finalized the vision of the Heavy Arms S2. In some ways, the Heavy Arms was a bit of a test bed for the FA Unicorn, though, you can see from the picture that it already has a pretty unique color scheme. I dub this, not the Unicorn, but the Zebra.

Speaking of Gundam UC, also on the work table…

1/100 MG RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee

The test build is done. The first thing I will be doing is painting the appropriate parts Gold. Not sure what to do with the armor yet but will come up with something soon. I will probably finish this before the Duel.

Now what kits are sitting in boxes waiting their turns?

Currently Under the Work Table

1/100 MG Gundam AGE-1 Titus

The AGE-1 Normal won me over and I knew I couldn’t ignore the Titus any longer. I like the look of the suit and am looking forward to the build. I even already have a paint scheme in my head. I mean, just look at this thing!

1/100 MG Crossbone Gundam X-1 Ver. Ka

Well, this is embarrassing. I was going to write how I have a completed Crossbone waiting for me to decide what to do with it when I realized that I haven’t put up the post showing the final part of the build. What have I been doing? I am ashamed. So, expect another MG Crossbone X-1 post very soon. There are quite a few other kits at home waiting to be started but because I have no real plans for them yet (except for the Epyon), I’ll leave them out of this entry for now.

Looking into the future, besides that Crossbone X-1 post (sigh).

Coming to the Work Table

1/144 RG RX-178 Gundam Mk-II Titans Version

Count it!

1/144 RG RX-178 Gundam Mk-II AEUG Version

It’s in the mail. Allow 4 weeks for delivery.

I will definitely be picking up both kits right away with the plans to build the Titans straight and then play around with the AEUG. So far the Real Grades have not disappointed at all so these two are a must have. Release day is around the time of our week-long Golden Week holiday so I’ll have plenty of time to devote to these.

Outside of those two, I have a good amount of interest in the 1/100 MG Blitz Gundam and 1/100 MG Marasai. Test shots of both look good so I’ll be watching the previews more closely as release day draws closer.

I’m back, baby!

Welcome back can’t wait to see your full armor “Zebra”

  2. sonar says:

Love the Zebracorn. Interested to see what’s in store for the Titus as well. Man you’ve been busy!

  3. Fireblade says:

What happended to the old HG Reborns?

  4. Jeff says:

I can’t wait for the RG MK II. It was one of my favorite MGs and with the two different color schemes I can justify having two of the same mobile suit on display(although I am still thinking about the Musha MK II). The HG Age 1 Titus was nice and I bet the MG of it will score even better than the MG normal. The zebra scheme for the Unicorn was a nice idea, given how the armor plates are.

Very impressive Syd, the only thing on my own worktable is finishing Eypons Decalling. My side project, the rebuilding my broken kits into 2 new units is still a work in progress, but im in no rush.

Epyon decals. I remember looking at those dry transfers and being worried. I still have to paint my Epyon but I’ll be using most of those dry transfers.

They are certainly one of the more awkward ive had to apply. I badly want to get my hands on the MG Sinanju. I read the review on Dalong, and the guy there removed all the gold stickers from thier black backround to apply them directly to the frame, it looks fantastic, but very difficult not to mess up.

I rarely paint my kits, im pretty happy with the default finish. I did convert a HG Tallgeese 3 into the original, it turned out great in the end, luckilly that kit includes all parts for the conversion, its just a case of paint.

What happened to the Barzam conversion you were working on?

    • syd says:

It’s still in close proximity to The Work Table, Dennis, but to be honest after experiencing fit difficulties I lost a bit of steam over that project. It makes me feel a bit guilty because it was the one everyone voted for and wanted to see.

Syd, glad to see you are back in the Gunpla game. I honestly was taking your dry spell as a sign that you were focusing on your martial arts like you had expressed interest in earlier sometime after Courage. I hope you are able to strike that perfect balance between your interests.
With that being said, I am REALLY looking forward to seeing your work on that Unicorn!!! Looks great so far!

    • Mike says:

I second lol. Glad to see you’re back on the sadle.

    • syd says:

      Hi Joe,

Yes, I have been focusing more on that. Though, this winter was especially cold and long so I spent most of my time huddled up in blankets. If only Japan had discovered central heating.

Doing good with finishing your project list, can’t wait to see what you do with the unicorns
