Gaijin Gunpla

Whenever I saw the MG version of the Destiny Gundam I was curious but there was always another kit that I was more interested in at the time so I kept passing it up. Now that this suit is available as the 1/144 RG ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam I want to build nothing else but this kit right now. Luckily for me, it released before our Golden Week holidays and I will have several days off with which to work on this kit (and that Steingeese I keep telling myself I’m almost finished modding). One, if not two, kits may be finished before long!

Everyone knows by now that I think the box design for the Real Grade line is the best thing ever so I’m not going to mention it here. (Oh? I just did? Imagine that.)

First thing that jumped out at me when I opened the box?

That huge sticker sheet! It’s larger than the sheets for any of the previous RGs and that is mostly thanks to those large blue triangles you see there. Those are stickers meant to go on the beam shield.

(tries to take in-focus photograph of a clear plastic part in a sealed plastic bag…)

This is the first time I’ve seen this kind of thing. You can use these stickers on the clear beam shield part or, I am guessing this is the reason Bandai did this, paint the part yourself. Options!

Box Contents

While I’ve never done Destiny I’m guessing the RG version of him will be much like the RG Freedom which was a fantastic kit (and one I probably should have done a review on).

At the bottom of the box is an advertisement for the ‘Wings of Light’ which Bandai is, of course, selling exclusively through their online store.

As we’ve come to expect the entire back cover is the marking guide.

Allot yourself three hours, and two Red-Bulls.

Now that I’ve got this guy in my hands it’s kind of making me stir-crazy. The images they show on the box make me want to leave work early and get my Plamo on.

I am stuck with bills and have 2 kits I need to build (MG Hyaku Shiki HD Colors and A Custom Rick Dias.) I have to wait for MG Epyon and MG Wing Zero ew.

I’d give those Wings of light pieces a consideration Syd if they aren’t too expensive, i have similar pieces for my MG Destiny, they definetly make the kit a real eyecatcher.

Building the Mark II RG right now, these things are great! Would be nice if they would give you some transfers though. I think those stickers are a real let down.

Its nearly the same tale, bought the MG extreme have yet to build it, I guess the MS design never grew on me where the Impulse did. Sure there are a lot of options all centered around the hands though, the flaw of the design in my opinion… but that RG gosh I’m starting to like the design and the excitement of building it straight off as soon as i get it is palpable, excitement embodied indeed.

Hi syd, just wondering if were planning on getting the wings of light? I am on the fence because most of the shots are from ads which can be misleading. They look really sparkly in some of them.

I think I will probably end up getting them. I love RG kits so much that I would like to see them displayed to their full potential. If I get my hands on one I will try to take some good pics and let everyone see what they are all about.

Looks like a cool suit. Should be a fun build. I look forward to the review Syd.

Not a fan of Seed suits in general, but I do like the look of this one. Not gonna buy it, but I like it lol.

+1 on RG Freedom review. I remember mentioning that specific kit on that entry you did asking how we would like to see you do reviews on older kits.
