Gaijin Gunpla

Okay, so maybe Captain Phasma’s time on the big screen in The Force Awakens turned out to be a little disappointing. Okay, quite disappointing but still that character looked phantastic and I’m glad to see got a kit release in the form of Bandai’s 1/12 Captain Phasma.

When Bandai first showed this at a model show it was in prototype form with no colours but we had a good idea that this would be plated in some way and we were correct.

Even the A frames which look the same to me as the First Order Stormtrooper’s are designated just for Phasma.

Poly-caps are the same as all the other Star Wars figure kits so far.

But you get these goodies!

That’s a cloth cape and some stickers.

These red felt stickers look to be for the cape. But which one?

Yes, you get a plastic cape as well.

There are markings as well, though not many.

Okay, Ms. Phasma, let’s get to it.

Man, this thing is shiny.

Phasma’s helmet has some distinct lines and it’s good to see Bandai used those as the seam lines here.

Howard the Duck.

Can’t be unseen.

As this kit goes together so much like the Stormtrooper/First Order Stormtrooper I’m going to work fairly quickly here.

Yes, already I’ve got a felt sticker on the small cape part there.

Parts for the waist.

Bite my shiny metal ass.

Here is the upper leg. Lots of undergates here. Did I mention it’s undergated? I’m sure I did.

Look at that beautiful seam!

Shiny feet complete with shiny ankles.

Once the legs are on you can add some accessories to his waist.

I can see myself!

Still needs these.

Ya messed up Phasma. Good thing Ren and Hux didn’t see it.

Still needs her cape so let’s start with the plastic one. It consists of two pieces and you apply the sticker to the smaller piece.

It then connects to the smaller cape part you previously put on thanks to three small openings.

Looks pretty good!

I do want to try the cloth cape though.

Slowly, carefully lay that long red sticker onto the cape.

You then have six openings to drop onto the Phasma’s neck and you have to do it from right to left in order.

Doesn’t look too bad though it won’t wrap around like the plastic cape does.

Now for her bling gun.

And the few stickers she comes with.

So where were we, Phasma?

“No, I’m just S2.”

Not sure I prefer the cloth cape.

It bunches up a little too much at the top.

Who gave you permission to remove your helmet?

Here are the extra hands.

I don’t really see myself using these.

Let’s try the cloth cape.

I’m in charge now, Phasma.

Submit your blaster for inspection.

I want to get this but I’m terrified of smudging it up while handling. Do you have any advice on how to deal with this?

  2. Thats pretty shiny.. If only the cloth cape is less see-through.

Is this kit available in the uk? Can’t find it on hlj!

Bandai does not allow their kits to be sold outside of Japan.

Outside of Asia, more likely. Quite a lot of hobby shops in Singapore do have Bandai SW models for sale, but none of the Revell kits.
