Gaijin Gunpla

As I wrote about not long ago in this post the costs to me of running this website have grown considerably since I started. Back when I moved from a Blogspot to my own domain the site was considerably smaller than it has become. Not only had I never anticipated how big this site would become thanks to all you readers, but I never gave a thought to the costs involved.

Well, that has had to change after having to move to my own server along with the need to redesign the site entirely to make better use of the available RAM. After explaining this in the Cranking it Up post many people responded with lots of support and some contacted me with some really good ideas which I very much appreciate. One thing I wrote about in that post was the possibility of accepting donations to help cover the new server and site upgrade costs. Well, that is something I have to move forward on although I do find it a little awkward to ask people to part with some of their hard-earned cash. In the end I decided that I would actually offer some of my limited edition and such unbuilt kits to the cause. So I’m setting up something I’ve decided to call…

Yup, Donate and win! What I’m going to try and do is compile a list of donors each month and then randomly select one of them as the winner of the kit I have to offer. To join in this, and to help me out while doing so, all you need to do is click the ‘Support Gaijin Gunpla’ button I put into the right sidebar right below the comments field.

That should take you to a paypal page where you can enter an amount to donate. I won’t set a minimum and all donations are equal so everyone has the same chance to win. After the month ends I’ll do a random draw and contact the winner and then send them the prize.

If you enjoy the content here or find the information helpful and have gained something from the reviews and everything else I try to share here and want to show your appreciation you can do so while at the same time possibly winning something cool.

To kick off the first month’s draw, I’m going with a somewhat hard to find HG Kit the RX-0 Full Armor Unicorn Gundam [Destroy Mode] Mechanical Clear version.

A good friend of mine found this in a Gundam store in a newly opened mega mall in Osaka, Japan. I hadn’t even heard of this kit at the time.

Not only is it a clear armour version but Bandai has also coated the red psycho-frame parts.

A stand is also included to hold this FA guy upright so he doesn’t buckle under the load of all his weapons and accessories.

So there it is, the first prize to be given to the lucky donor during the month of April.

The success of gaijin-gunpla is all thanks to you readers and I’m very blown away by how my content is received. Now I need to ask for a little help to be able to continue putting out this content and much more.

Consider using cloudflare to cache the contents. Even the free tier helps.

Hi there! I’ve been following your work here for about a year now, and the steps you’ve been taking lately have encouraged me to finally say hello. Thanks to you my devotion to gunpla has increased tenfold, to the point that I’ve invested in an airbrush, painted my first kit (HG Gouf Custom), completed my first PG (Unicorn with LEDs), and built a backlog that reaches halfway to the ceiling. So, thank you for the inspiration! I’ll be doing my best to give something in return each month. I wish the best for these brave steps you’re taking, and look forward to what’s to come!

At the time of my post it was already April fools where i live. And when it comes to website the time is usually considered locally – the post was made on 1st ^^.

Your website has helped me choose what Gundams to buy with the limited money I have.

Will definitely donate soon! Keep it up!

  15. Trent says:

This site has become my go to before I even think about buying a kit. Thank you for your hard work.

Sorry for donating only $1. I do really like the content in your site since it is one of the very few sites that regularly produce review that is not a VIDEO. I really like reading written review. Unfortunately, I dont really have much.

    • Ray says:

As the saying goes, every little helps. I felt compelled to donate also, as i do check daily for any updates on new kits. Am eagerly awaiting the freedom 2.0 review. I’ll probably buy it regardless. So running out of shelf space!! haha.
