Gaijin Gunpla

Whenever I see or read about this kit the first thing that comes to mind is this: (NSFW)

Never got around to picking up this kit when it was released originally in December of 2013. Fortunately for me, Thunderbolt was popular enough that it became an anime and this kit is released again in its anime colours as the Zaku II + Big Gun (Gundam Thunderbolt Ver.) — Anime Ver.

There is so much stuff in this box!

A manual each for the Big Gun and for the Zaku II.

A foil sticker sheet for each as well extra markings stickers!

Nuts and bolts.

This post is for the Big Gun part of the Zaku II + Big Gun so I will show the runners that are for that.

Begin the Big Gun!

This is the central portion of the Big Gun. This is where the gun attaches and also the legs supporting that monstrous thing.

The Big Gun part comes after so for now it’s about getting the legs on.

You’ll need to build three of these.

And three of these.

I actually messed up here. The manual has you assemble completely one leg before putting on the next but I just went ahead and bolted them all on there. Must have been too excited.

Having all three legs on does make working on the feet of each leg a little awkward but I managed.

Now for these.

These hold on that cylinder you already assembled.

More bolts and nuts go on here.

You now are instructed to put on stickers.

Here is the Big Gun foil sticker sheet.

So let’s put this gray sticker onto this gray area of the leg.

Um, ok.

You then have to put the warning stripes onto the one leg you are assembling.

Or… you could just do them all at once!

Here is the BD2 runner.

The circular part are meant to cover up the recesses where the nuts and bolts went on but I want to see my nuts and bolts on my machine so I am leaving those off.

But I do need to put on the thrusters.

They fit into the little slots on each end of the cylinder.

Four per end.

An antennae goes into this top at this point.

You’ll be doing this again on the next leg and again again on the final leg.

Or… you could just do them all at once!

There’s the base.

Now for the Gun itself.

You will need to put stickers on at this step.

Let’s extend that barrel.

Love the muzzle break.

Now for the main body of the gun.

You have some stickers to put on here. Quite a lot. Be sure to put all those gray stickers onto that gray frame. Um, ok.

Here it is!

That’s a big Big Gun.

But wait. There’s more. This thing is so big that you need a section that you can grip and control it.

More stickers.

Now even bigger!

But wait. You’re not done. You’ve got more stuff to stack on there.

Make three of these and then put a gray sticker onto the gray areas.

Um, no.

These stickers have small edges that have to bend around the corners of the area they are covering and I know in advance they will only peel off in roughly 39.67 seconds after being applied.

I stickered the one that goes on the bottom just for the sake of it but stopped there.

I am a big man, yes I am, and I’ve got a big gun.

(Yes, I also built the Zaku II.)

I’ll take a moment in case anyone missed it or is new to the site that there is less than half a month left in the Donate and Win for April. Details can be found in the Donate and Win Post. Remember the prize is a limited edition RX-0 Full Armor Unicorn Gundam [Destroy Mode] Mechanical Clear version! Thanks to everyone who has donated so far. I’ll be choosing the winner May 1st and contacting him/her by email.

I think Bandai has already announced the MG FA Gundam “Thunderbolt” and the Psycho Zaku II so keep an eye out for their release (though they are gonna be pricey due to all the arms and weapons they have)

Great post (as usual). I am really getting into the more ‘unusual’ Gundam kits lately and the Zaku II Big Gun is certainly one of them. I’m definitely going to check this one out. Cheers!
